The American Film Institute has broadcast its 100 Years… 100 Movie Quotes. As expected, there were some notable quotes missing from the final cut. Some of these weren’t even in the 400 quotes that were nominated. Go figure!
For example, while they had a quote from The Blues Brothers (1980), it was not this one:
Elwood: It’s 106 miles to Chicago, we’ve got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark and we’re wearing sunglasses.
Jake: Hit it.
The film Slingblade (1996) didn’t even warrant a nomination, so this wasn’t on the show either:
Karl: Mmm.
Better Off Dead (1985) wasn’t nominated, so you can scratch:
Johnny: I want my two dollars!
They quoted The African Queen (1951), but missed my favorite from that film:
Rose Sayer: I never dreamed that any mere physical experience could be so stimulating!
And I really didn’t expect The Lost Boys (1987) to be on the list, but I would have loved to see this:
Sam Emerson: Look at your reflection in the mirror. You’re a creature of the night Michael, just like out of a comic book! You’re a vampire Michael! My own brother, a goddamn, shit-sucking vampire.
Anyone care to point out more omissions? We can make our own list!

Most of the top 100 were good ones that I’m not sure how you could take out. I tried to get into the top 400 but my computer froze. So, some of the ones I might think of could be in there.
“At my command, unleash Hell.” Gladiator
“I’m having an old friend for dinner.” Silence of the Lambs
“Who is Kaiser Soze?” Usual Suspects
Fun post!

I love Becky’s choices. First, I can’t believe that “No one puts Baby in a corner” qualified from that wretched excuse of a film called Dirty Dancing, or “I’m the King of the World!” HOWEVER, I was gratified to see some cool quotes hit the Top 100. But, as in any list, some were overlooked.
Personal favorites:
Vizzini: No more rhymes, now, I mean it!
Fezzik: Anybody wanna peanut?
–from Rob Reiner’s The Princess Bride (actually, anything from that film would qualify–esp. the Contest of Wits in which the villain carefully explains that one should never get involved in a land war in Asia)
“This song explains why I’m leaving home to become a stewardess.”
–Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous
and, of course, for no other reason that personal preference:
Milton: Have you seen my stapler?
Mike Judge’s Office Space
Oh, this is fun. . .

Yeah, I had a few when I read the list a few days ago, and now my mind is blank, but definitely agree with jenn. I’ll keep thinking.
