I don’t know how I missed this at the time [unless you consider that it's something I don't really give a crap about] but a new World Record for sending a text message was set in November. Two and a half years ago the record was shattered from 67 seconds to 43.24 seconds. That has now been whittled down to 41.52 seconds.
If your thumbs are twitching to attempt the record yourself, the text used for the contest is:

I’ve been using the same notebook computer for about six years or so. It has done well for basic tasks — email, blogging, etc. — but it had begun to suffer a bit with the digital photography I’m trying to do. And it has had a crack along one hinge for a while. Then just before Christmas I found that crack had gotten much worse, so I just had to…

It’s bigger, faster, stronger, shiny, and new. I’m still getting used to the keyboard (some of the keys on the right are scrunched up to make room for the numeric keypad) and, of course, I’ve had to get my software, email, bookmarks, etc. installed/transferred. The conversion of this blog to Wordpress is still under way — getting all the settings correct and transferring the old files is taking a while, but I haven’t abandoned the idea… yet.
