About Face

I’ve been spending some time on FaceBook lately. I probably spend more time playing Twirl [a game in which you're given a set of letters and make as many words from them as you can] than I do keeping up with my “friends” there. There are finally enough people that I know on there to make it interesting though. Some are relatives. Some are current or former coworkers. Some are former classmates. And some are people I’ve “met” through blogging.

I know a couple people that have abandoned their blogs in favor of FaceBook. [And at least one that swears she will never register on FaceBook. That's OK too, of course.] Most of us find the two to be separate and complementary activities. I find it interesting that a few people have asked that we never mention their blogs on FaceBook. Blogs, especially anonymous blogs, are the dark side; FaceBook is the vanilla. Since this blog is not anonymous, it’s not very dark. And my anonymous blogs are just that. Anonymous.

My blog-posting here has always been erratic. I still read 40 or so blogs on a semi-regular basis. [Probably only half of those are still being updated on a semi-regular basis, but still....] As a general rule though I always do my blog business before clicking over to FaceBook. On FaceBook I can be every bit as thoughtless, careless, and insensitive as in real life. But I can also keep a secret….

Court of Play

Citing the dismal statistic, “Only one-third of Americans can name the three branches of government, but two-thirds can name a judge on American Idol,” Justice Sandra Day O’Connor is leading the development of an online interactive civic education project: Our Courts. The site is up and already has resources for middle school students and teachers. Games are in development and are scheduled to be available later this year.

For the record:

  • executive
  • legislative
  • judicial
  • Simon
  • Paula
  • some other guy

I have never been a fan of the show….

Little Big Hike

Saturday we had an unseasonably warm 80+ degrees. Yesterday morning a cold front blew through bringing some rain and unseasonably cool high temperatures in the low 60s. This is winter in central Florida and I am not missing the snow that is blanketing the northern climes one little bit.

We took advantage of the pleasant weather by hiking one of the trails by the Little Econ.

Little Econ

We saw this little critter on the trail.

When I was in college I had a professor at Eastern Kentucky that told us he worked his way through school by coming down south and getting armadillos. Then he would take them back home and sell them as ‘possums on the half shell.
