When we were kids we played cowpersons and Native Americans. [We didn't call it that, of course.] Dad watched Bonanza and Gunsmoke and since there was just one TV in the house, we did too. Yes, I grew up in the dark ages. But we had heroes:
Eventually, John Wayne was not just a cowboy. He was a Green Beret. He was a Hellfighter. In the end though, he was a Shootist. He was probably spinning in his grave when this came out:
Never ever though did I want to be a cowboy more than when I imagined one of these women singing this to me:

Let's do Something Cheap and Superficial
yeah. cowboys. i think that is a boy’s dream. all we girls had to aspire to on Gunsmoke was Kitty and didn’t she run a brothel? ok, not on the show but in real life her bar would have had a second floor, if you know what i mean.
Yeah, I know what you mean. And I’m sorry. Because even if I say you could totally be Miss Kitty… that’s not really a compliment, is it? ~Tim
I wouldn’t mind being Miss Kitty. I bet she ran a great bar and brothel. Having the option to be a cowboy would be nice, tho. By the same token, men should have the option to wear a dress and look pretty like Miss Kitty. Must be fair.
I’m in favor of fairness, but I personally have no desire to wear a dress or look pretty. You can be a cowboy [or a Miss Kitty] with me any time. You know, there was that movie Bad Girls in 1994. Four women [Madeleine Stowe, Mary Stuart Masterson, Andie MacDowell, and Drew Barrymore] were cowboyish in that one. ~Tim
