Give a woman a potted plant
no matter how beautiful or rare
and you’ve given her
another responsibility
something else to nurture
Give a woman cut flowers
no matter how plain or common
and you’ve taken on
the responsibility
of replacing them
I stop at the 7-11
and buy a doghouse rose
I carry the dying bloom
dreading my arrival home
while rushing to get there

Let's do Something Cheap and Superficial
What is a doghouse rose? My usual source for information, Wikipedia, has no answer, and my other source for all things horticultural, my dad, is no longer available. Is is a rose planted at a doghouse, a rose in the shape of a doghouse, or a rose that has perhaps seen better days?
I only learned the term recently [I read it here]. It’s one of those flowers wrapped in cellophane that you can buy at a convenience store or corner market. And you typically only buy it because you know you’re in trouble and are headed home to the doghouse. ~Tim
. . .and I did like the juxtaposition of rushing and dreading. I think we can all identify.
Yeah, sort of like ripping off a bandage…. ~Tim
